Super-Green Smoothie

"This drink has miracles in it," says Rachel Newman, Healthy Living's editor-in-chief, who created this potent mixture as a way to fortify her diet with soy, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, and an abundance of phytonutrients. "It's an easy way to add a variety of nutrients to our diets, since many of us tend to eat the same foods over and over again," Newman reports. "Plus, it boosts my energy and really holds me till lunch."

Serving: Serves: 1

INGREDIENTS:
8 ounces (1 cup) chilled plain soy milk
1 banana, peeled and thickly sliced
1 portion (according to label) vanilla soy-protein powder
1 portion (according to label) green phytonutrient powder*
1 1/2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
1 teaspoon powdered vitamin C

DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a blender; blend until smooth.

*There are several good brands of green phytonutrient powders, available mostly in health-food stores. Choose one that includes a wide array of plant sources in its ingredient list. For a mail-order supplier, call The Organic Frog (800-473-3641) and request its Greens Today supplement.
